...and pivot.

...And then I pivoted. After a day of working on the story, another idea wiggled in-between. Something that would make a better one-shot and set up some motivation for the one I've been meaning to write. So I've put the former aside for something newish. Of course the moment I start writing again, I have house guests which puts a kind of a damper on things, but I suppose more time to ruminate. I have my space to myself again starting Tuesday, quitting my writers group on Wednesday, and should be back to my noodling self on Thursday... Yay!
So I've been in a writers group since early in the year and it's been a bit hard as well, I haven't contributed anything so I kind of feel like a third wheel. The idea was good, having deadlines, having others to bounce ideas off of, but I was still in back care over writing mode so each deadline passed and I just kinda of felt like a slacker. Editing and critting is awesome and ALWAYS a great way to learn the craft, but I also felt like I had to produce original stuff as I wasn't about to bust out the Johnlock porn (although Anjali is in my group and is my beta s she's gonna see my porn anywho...) but I didn't want to bring my fandom into an original story group so yeah it was a great idea and I really loved the people in the group but I realized it was stifling my writing. And the pointing of writing is to write... so yeah, after my group on Wednesday I have to step back.
Which kind of sucks. But since I decided to leave I started writing Johnlock and well, writing is writing. So I think I am making the right decision. I just need some words to flow out of me...
