Big Brat: Day 38
Chapter 5: +905
Total 12,881
Vacation days are always kind of disjointed. I went to bed at 6AM last night, woke up at 9AM to go for a three mile walk with Anjali, got home at 1:30 and then slept until 5PM then watched Merlin... (wtf?) I will not rant, although there were at least seven times where if Arthur and Merlin had started making out it wouldn't have disrupted the plot.
I will say that I was disappointed by the end. They left quite a few holes and there was a bit of gratuitous character killing that served no purpose other than to .... kill off characters??? But enough about that, I ended chapter 4 early and moved the straggling end bits over to chapter 5. The break seemed logical as chapter 5 introduces a kind of tonal shift that can carry through to the climax and I just made the shift happen earlier. So chapter 4 stands at around 5500 words right now and I imagine chapter 5 might be about the same..
Chapter 5 should be fun, battle of the wills is always fun to write, I think I know who will end up on top, but things shift while in progress so who knows. So far it's been more of an exercise of "and this time I REALLY mean it..." which will not work, or maybe the point is that it wont... This still resembles the idea I started with, but kind of vaguely. It's more of description twin of my original idea. I have 5738 words to write by the end of the year to meet my self imposed quota of 22K from Nov 18th - Dec 31.
On Nov 18th I decided to make myself commit to a 500 words a day practice in order to keep the writing muscles warmed up. I didn't make it every day and didn't think I would meet the quota but the past week I've been surpassing the daily quota and it's adding up. So surprisingly, I think I might make the endgame quota!. :-) Finishing draft 1 by EOY maybe not though... maaaaaybe?
2013 is when I challenge myself to 150K in 365 days. Not much for quite a few of the prolific fandom writers out there but for me, this would be the most I've written in a year, possibly ever. Will be interesting.
