Stuck: Day 24
Chapters: 1-5 (draft 1)
Total @10K
Draft 0 has come as far as it can. I managed about 11K of writing from all possible angles before I hit the "you really should pull this shit together before this just becomes a bag of words" realization kicked in. So now I'm trying to do just that. The attempt to get a proper, linear, first draft is on. The game is on! (It's so not on...) I've excised a chapter, written a proper story/action outline, played musical chairs with all of the scenes, and pasted them back into some sort of order, so now... now...
Now I have to start from the top and just write it through from start to finish. There is about 10K of content in there, but I still have to just do it over and try to keep/paste/salvage as much as I can. Not going to worry too much about proper close John third right now. Just managing a draft that I can really start digging into. At least it's starting to feel like something coherent, if not still weird. But I guess writing this series will always kind of feel weird.
So now I'm just procrastinating and writing this, as the thought of starting this overhaul kinda gives me the hives and makes me feel like napping. Napping... But only 500 words must be made today. I can at least do that... The chairs in Bauhaus are like wood covered bricks. I think I need lunch... and a nap. And maybe a cookie.

Date: 2014-01-26 12:07 am (UTC)I have one story in edits that I'm totally avoiding. Another that I'm dithering before I take the plunge, and another where I don't really even know where I want to go with it.
The joys of writing? I think I'll go make some tea or something.

Date: 2014-01-26 12:40 am (UTC)Wow! Yeah sometimes it's kind of a slog. But I think I'm maybe a week away from a proper first draft? Two weeks?Wow you have two simultaneous projects! That's impressive! I have no multitasking skills when it comes to writing...
Does this include your originial fic one too?
Hmmm tea sounds nice too... :-)

Date: 2014-01-26 01:25 am (UTC)With GYWO, I have had no choice but to just keep writing (15k and counting, baby), and maybe I should do the one project at a time thing like I do with crafts, but...I just don't feel like doing the same story all the time, and if I want those words, I gotta follow the feelings. Thankfully, I've been collecting prompts, so I have a plethora of potential stuff.
Technically, I have three longer WIPs (the one in edits is the original, yes), and then I've completed/first drafted, er, nine drabbles. I've been pondering how and when to post them. Whether or not they need betas, etc. I'm even conflicted about blogging about them/the writing in general. -facepalm-
Said drabbles are all sorts of things. I've got original, Sherlock, Teen Wolf, dudeslash, femslash, gen. Mostly, it's a lot of porn. Alas, just posting seems like a lot of work to me (I've got AO3, DW/LJ, and maybe Tumblr, plus assorted comms)? I do have a semi-public commitment on GYWO to post at least one thing a month, so yeah, I should do that...
I like schedules and formats and rules, you know? Maybe I should just say I'm gonna blog once a week, about anything, but mention the writing. I feel a bit embarrassed to trumpet my successes ever since school taught me that people resent you getting a better grade than them. :-/

Date: 2014-01-26 02:02 am (UTC)I don't know, trumpeting your successes about your writing progress? I think that's a cool thing... I like to read how folks are progressing, especially on a challenge like this. It motivates me to keep at it too.
Why wouldn't you blog about writing? I do it to process what I'm going through. But I just love reading about writers writing about writing! Call me crazy! I'd love to read about your process.
I like the schedule/format/rules too. Sometimes they really help having that kind of structure. Having a goal also helps chip away at the words :-)
It's great that you can switch between projects, I really wish I could do that. I've tried and it wasn't so good. But I am trying to switch things up this year so we shall see. My only real goal is to finish stories.
And wow! Teen Wolf! Yeah that's another fandom I love from afar. I watch the show religiously, but am not in the fandom. I guess I ship a rare-pair? Stiles and Scott? Is that considered a rare pair? I just know the monolith that is Sterek...
Well I look forward to your blogging. and again, YAY on the awesome word count! :-D We can do this!

Date: 2014-01-26 02:31 am (UTC)I agree, your posts about writing (and talking to my friends) do help remind me I'm not alone in this little self-imposed race against ourselves we've got going. I'll do my best to go for at least once a week for this month, then adjust to whatever feels comfortable from there.
TW is just crazy addictive, no? I started and then my friends got into it. We hate and love it in nearly equal measure.
All TW pairings are rare compared to Sterek! I think after that you get the hetero canon ones, like Scott and Allison, Erica and Boyd, Lydia and -douchebag-, er, that jock dude that went to London... :) Isaac is definitely up and coming, I think.
Stiles and Scott are cute together (one of my beta-ees, ureshiiichigo, is writing a fake relationship fic with them, it's fun!), but they aren't really my favorite. I do like Sterek, but I love trying out all the different pairings possible. I think so far the Sheriff and Chris Argent are my favorite. And then I've written some Cora/Lydia, of all things. I call it Lyra. :D
Perhaps that is what I shall post. That and Mycroft feels. Because Mycroft. :)
